A Confidential Declaration of Domestic Partnership is a permanent record not open to public inspection except upon court order.

No information regarding a Confidential Domestic Partnership will be provided to partners, including copies of the Declaration once filed, unless one or both partners appear in person or submit a notarized written request.

* The fee for filing a domestic partnership is $33.00 if both partners are under the age of 62.
** The fee for filing a domestic partnership is $10.00 if either partner is 62 or older.

Copies of non-confidential domestic partnership filings can be ordered through the California Secretary of State's Sacramento office in person (drop off) or by mail.

Copies of confidential domestic partnership filings can be ordered by one of the partners or by authorized individuals submitting an order with a certified copy of a court order granting permission to the California Secretary of State to release a copy. Either type of request can be submitted in person (drop off) or by mail through the California Secretary of State’s Sacramento office.

How to Submit Domestic Partnership Forms

Completed forms can be submitted three ways:

1. Mailed to California Secretary of State, Domestic Partners Registry, P.O. Box 942870, Sacramento, CA 94277–2870;
2. Submitted in person at the Sacramento office; or
3. Submitted in person at the Los Angeles office. The Los Angeles office is not able to process documents received by mail.

Note: There is an additional $15.00 special handling fee for processing a document delivered in person to the Sacramento or Los Angeles offices.

Payments for documents submitted:

• by mail to Sacramento can be made by check or money order.
• in person in the Sacramento office may be made by check, money order, cash, or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).
• in the Los Angeles office may be made by check, money order, or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). The Los Angeles office is not able to accept cash.

Checks or money orders should be made payable to the California Secretary of State.
